Loose?!?!?!

Well, a lot of people who surf the internet (and visit these fora) don't have English as their native language (or are English teachers ), and you can't really expect someone who has English as their second (or third) language to speak it _perfectly_.

Well, that may be true, Muzzafarath, but he''s not just talking about people who don''t speak English as their native language (in fact I think a lot of the regulars here from non-English speaking countries have excellent English). I''ve noticed the same problem, and not just here. There are far too many otherwise intelligent-seeming people with horrible spelling/grammar skills, and I think it''s partially due to language corruption propagated by the Internet.

I may not be an english teacher, but one thing that bugs me is when people type ALOT. One word. That''s incorrect, so.. please, for my sake, please type A LOT as two words.

alot

Right:
a lot

There are three types of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.

Actually, "loose" *is* a verb, and I plan on including it when releasing a game, as in the sentence "And in the 4th year of development, we shall loose our game upon the world." And actually, until I looked it up in the dictionary (read: m-w.com), I forgot that "loose" could be an adjective . Silly me.

Well now, I''ll tell you what makes me mad. It''s teachers and perfectionists correcting others'' English without keeping themselves in check! Look at the following.

Fact is, very few people use correct English on the Internet, maybe because they''re lazy. I pretty much always speak in correct English because it''s just natural. But, since nobody else does, I''m used to it.
Especially because I live in Hawaii where they teach pidgin English in the schools. Watsup wit dat, bra?

I try my hardest to remain speaking correct English, but when you type as fast as some people do; there are bound to be typos. Personally, though, I think it is fairly easy to write in proper English and grammar. Others who have not learned English as a first language will always have difficulties.

The Internet truly is a lazy place for language though

Loose: verb Set free, release
loose: adjective easily moved, not fully attached.
lose: verb to be unable to get back something you originally had.

Well, I think that''s it anyway. However, in the xgames3d boards I myself saw André Lamothe use loose instead of lose. I think if you aren''t thinking about typing, you tend to make typos and also you tend to make writing down mistakes which are not a result of not thinking properly and momentarily neglecting your grammar.

Yes, loose is a verb. Poor argument on my part. And I wan''t jumping around screaming about people''s typos, poor grammar, or spelling mistakes. God knows I make enough of those myself. My one and only point was that people use the word ''loose'' improperly. It was not a flame. I was not being critical. I was ranting about a pet peeve just to make myself feel better. I did and I do.

I find that I CAN''T use loose instead of lose. It just doesn''t look right. I hate it when you look at a word and go "nah! It isn''t right!" but it actually is. Loose isn''t one of those. It is always blatantly obvious if it is correct or not

i believe that the mistake to which this post refers is among the top ten mistakes in the english language, it has to be. i have seen it to much for it not to be, and i refuse to believe otherwise. IN FACT, i have neglected to type EITHER of those words, just for the fear that i, one of the greater minds known in history, will screw it up. that is how bad it is.

One thing that REALLY pisses me off is: ALOT.. It is "A LOT"... there IS a space required! ALOT is the amount of car-parking space you are entitled to, not like 'a lot' which is completely different! Why don't people understand this?
