UPDATE: We had a lot of interest in our position (to our surprise!), and we've filled the space for extra gameplay programmers at this moment in time. Thank you for your interest!

--------

Greetings!

Myself and a small team of people are working on a non-profit passion project called Tiberian Sun: Incursion.

Tiberian Sun: Incursion is a to-be-released non-profit PC game, created to provide an innovative multiplayer third person shooter experience, set in the iconic Tiberian Sun universe created by Westwood Studios and Electronic Arts.

We use a fully sourced game engine to create this game, based on an older game engine. We already have a fully functional core gameplay loop and completed several successful closed tests.

Who are we looking for?

We currently need someone that is able to work on a number of new gameplay and combat systems, both based on design specifications as well as “free to experiment” style tasks.

What is needed:

  • C++ programming knowledge including modern C++ features.
  • Working knowledge of Visual Studio 2019 for Windows Development.
  • Working knowledge of Git and how to use it and work with repositories.
  • Good English communications skills.
  • A passion for video games and programming.

What may be helpful:

  • 3D Math skills including boxes, lines, frustums, vectors, matrices, quaternions, curves, splines, and collision detection math.
  • Experience with Direct3D 11 (including HLSL and programmable shaders).
  • Knowledge of the Autodesk 3D Studio Max API.
  • Experience with physics systems for vehicles or characters.
  • JavaScript knowledge (for UI).

What we offer:

  • A chance to gain extra experience working on a larger codebase.
  • An opportunity to look at how an older game engine ticks, and improve it.

Interested? You can get in touch simply by messaging me here, or by sending me a direct message via Discord: Raap#0956, and we can provide additional information or answer questions if needed. ?

Thank you for reading so far!

I will now go ahead and answer a couple of common questions:

  • How do I learn more about this project?
    • While we have not done any PR yet, and we're not ready for a full public reveal, we do have a work in progress website:
  • Do you have a Discord server?
  • Is this legal?
    • Yes, we follow community guidelines given to us by Electronic Arts. The creation of fan games based on their intellectual property is allowed as long as nothing is being sold.
  • How big is the development team for this project?
    • Right now we're counting 8 people; 1 designer/artist/producer (myself), 3 programmers, 2 narrative designers, 1 SFX specialist, 1 composer, and the occasional freelance contributor.
  • How long has this project been in development?
    • Active development didn't start until early 2022, so a little more than a year as of this moment.
  • What game engine do you use?
    • We use a fully sourced, largely custom game engine based on an older game engine. The engine is called the W3D Engine and it is being co-developed with W3D Hub. The engine is still constantly being worked on, for example, recently we completed an implementation of PBR materials and better lighting systems.
