Griffin Gaming Partners launches $100m indie dev fund, led by Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender
Griffin Gaming Partners has launched its Special Opportunities Fund with $100 million earmarked for indie games, and it’s being led by Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender. The fund uses project-based financing: Griffin takes a flat share of game revenue rather than equity, and it avoids the usual “recoup first” structure that can starve a studio’s cash flow.
For developers, the appeal is obvious: more flexible capital, studio control stays with the team, and the terms are meant to support long-tail success instead of forcing a quick payback. Griffin says it has already backed 15 titles, including nine announced projects, and is looking at deals from a few hundred thousand dollars up to around $5 million. They’re also screening for early traction signals like wishlists, followers, demo engagement, and market fit, with a stated preference for systems-driven games.
“We think the time is right to shake things up with a 'win-win' approach.”
