New AAA collective to publish Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic plus games from CoD and Yu-Gi-Oh! veterans
GreaterThan Group (GTG) has launched as a new holding company with $40 million raised and about $60 million more committed. Its first investments are Arcanaut Studios in Edmonton, BulletFarm in Los Angeles, and MAGship in Tokyo, each led by well-known industry veterans. Arcanaut is headed by Casey Hudson, BulletFarm by David Vonderhaar, and MAGship by Masato Saki.
Why developers should care is the operating model: GTG says it will provide full funding, end-to-end support, and autonomy, while co-ownership gives studio leadership equity in both their own studio and the parent group. That’s a pretty explicit attempt to reduce the friction that often comes with publisher relationships and investment cycles. GTG also says it’s incubating other projects and sees anime as a core pillar of its IP strategy, which suggests it’s aiming beyond traditional game-only bets.
