IGN expands partnership with Gamescom, adds game previews to official indie showcase
Gamescom organizers Koelnmesse and game have expanded their partnership with IGN, bringing the outlet into the gamescom awesome indies show in a bigger way. The Thursday-night livestream, typically 60 to 75 minutes long, already mixes world premieres, gameplay reveals, and developer interviews; this year it will also feature game previews formatted for the broadcast.
That matters because previews are a different kind of exposure than a trailer drop. They can give indie teams a more grounded, first-hand read on how a game is landing, which is useful when you’re trying to communicate design intent, production value, or a unique hook to players and press at the same time. For smaller teams, being part of a show with established reach can be a meaningful discovery boost.
IGN will also keep running gamescom studio, the glass-cube setup on the show floor, with English and German broadcasts, plus bespoke content for Japan and China through its global teams. IGN has handled gamescom studio production since 2019, so this is more an expansion of an existing media pipeline than a reset.
Independent developers and publishers exhibiting in the entertainment area, indie area, or event arena can apply for editorial and sponsorship integration. The practical takeaway is that gamescom is continuing to centralize its indie visibility around a few high-profile broadcast surfaces, and IGN is now even more embedded in that process.
