Modern Warfare 4 is moving into public testing with a tightly staged rollout: Call of Duty: NEXT on August 21, followed immediately by Early Access beta access for pre-orders, then a full open beta on August 28. The beta spans two weekends and includes multiple maps, returning modes like Search & Destroy, the new Kill Block mode, and a Training Mobility Course, with progression tied to unlocking weapons, perks, field upgrades, and killstreaks.

For developers, the interesting part is how much of the game’s combat identity is being exposed early. Kill Block is positioned as an adaptive live-fire training environment with 10v10 Gunfight-style matches, while the beta also highlights movement, ballistics, and loadout building. That suggests Infinity Ward is using the beta not just for server stress, but to validate pacing, readability, and the feel of its combat sandbox across a wide range of encounter sizes.

The beta also doubles as a platform for premium pre-order incentives. Vault Edition buyers get access to multiple operator packs and signature weapons during testing, while the broader pre-order campaign includes a serialized camo challenge tied to Black Ops 7 Season 05. Players who pre-order digitally before July 23 can earn the Moonlit Pearl camo immediately, then chase Gilded Ruin through a 5,000-Skull challenge, with the first 100,000 completions receiving a numbered variant.
