Godot Engine partner firm W4 Games secures $18m Series B funding, signs deal with Tencent to bolster Asia ecosystem
W4 Games has raised $18 million in Series B funding, with Tencent leading the round and joining OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant, and Tobias Lutke’s family office. The deal also includes a strategic agreement with Tencent to help scale the Godot ecosystem across Asia, where W4 sees major room for growth.
The company was founded in 2022 by the creators of Godot to provide commercial services around the open-source engine, including console porting and enterprise support. W4 says Godot usage has climbed sharply, with SteamDB data showing a more than 50% rise in Steam games using the engine across 2024 and 2025, and 1,262 Godot-based titles released on Steam so far in 2026.
For developers, the practical takeaway is that Godot’s commercial support layer is getting more capital, more staff, and a stronger push into larger productions. W4 says headcount will grow by 50% from a team of roughly 30 people, with 10 to 15 hires planned over the next 12 months, including roles in Asia. The company is positioning itself to serve bigger projects, from games to XR and multiplayer-heavy use cases.
Tencent’s involvement matters because Asia is one of the fastest-growing regions for Godot adoption, and W4 already has relationships there through partners such as Indieark in China and eSol in Japan. The broader signal is that Godot’s ecosystem is maturing beyond hobbyist and indie use, with more infrastructure being built around localization, enterprise adoption, and platform support.
“We want to become one of the top three companies in this space at a global scale.”
