GTA 6 extended look reaches 31.1m views on Netflix in four days, making it the most-viewed title last week
GamesIndustry.biz reports that Grand Theft Auto 6’s extended look became Netflix’s most-viewed title last week, drawing 31.1 million views in just four days. The 30-minute preview ran from Thursday, August 27 through Sunday, August 30, and topped Netflix’s English-language film list in 87 of 93 tracked countries.
The clip was exclusive to Netflix for six hours before moving to YouTube, where Rockstar Games’ channel has since logged 17 million views. That split matters because Netflix and YouTube count views differently, but the scale still points to unusually strong interest for a game marketing beat.
Sensor Tower data also showed a sharp spike in Netflix usage during the window: US mobile viewership rose 35% hour over hour, mobile users were up 50% versus the prior 12-week average, and web traffic jumped 125%, briefly crashing the service. For developers, it’s a reminder that a major trailer drop can behave more like a live event than a standard promo beat.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously described the Netflix premiere as “one of the hors d’oeuvres” in GTA 6’s marketing campaign. The game is set to launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so expect the promotional ramp to keep building from here.
