Trophy Games makes largest acquisition to date with $2.6 million Playrion deal
GamesIndustry.biz reports Trophy Games is acquiring Playrion, the Paris studio behind Airlines Manager and Airport Simulator: First Class, in a $2.6 million deal funded from its own cash reserves. Paradox Interactive has owned Playrion since 2020 and will also receive an earnout equal to 9% of Playrion's net revenue over the next three years.
Playrion employs around 30 people and generates roughly $4.6 million a year in revenue, so this is a meaningful scale-up for Trophy rather than a speculative bet on a tiny team. The studio will continue operating independently from Paris, which should reduce disruption while Trophy folds the business into its wider publishing and live-ops machinery.
For developers, the interesting part is Trophy's stated plan to apply its marketing, data, technology, and development resources to Playrion's existing titles. That usually points to UA optimization, monetization tuning, and live content support rather than a ground-up relaunch, which can be a faster path to growth if the core audience is already proven.
Trophy also revised its financial outlook upward, now expecting revenue of $25.9 million to $27.4 million, compared with a prior range of $22.8 million to $25.4 million. The company says it has grown revenue more than fourfold over five years and has six new games due over the next year, so this acquisition fits a broader push to scale both organically and through M&A.
“What makes this acquisition particularly interesting to us is the potential to build from an already proven foundation.”
