Beginner 3D update

Briefing

MonoGame Foundation has started rolling out its Beginner 3D Tutorial to sponsor-tier supporters, with the first six chapters already available. Unlike the earlier Beginner 2D material, this one is being published in stages as each section clears an extensive review process.

The tutorial is aimed at developers who want a structured path into 3D in MonoGame, using Star Fox 64 as the teaching framework. Topics already listed include matrix-based rendering, a 3D camera, collision detection, enemy waves, a 3D particle system, BasicEffect, mixed 2D/3D UI, and a conversational cutscene system.

Early access is currently limited to contributors at the SpriteBatch level or above through GitHub, Patreon, or PayPal. Supporters also get source access as it changes, a dedicated Discord channel, and the chance to influence the tutorial before it ships publicly.

For teams and solo devs working in MonoGame, the practical value is straightforward: a guided 3D onboarding path that should lower the barrier to entry for newcomers and provide a reference implementation for common gameplay and presentation systems. The Foundation says the full tutorial will be released free once all chapters are finished and feedback has been addressed.
