Meta VR Glasses are coming. Build with Unity from day one.
Unity says Meta VR Glasses will be supported from day one in Unity 6.6, with OpenXR handling the transition so existing Quest projects can move forward with minimal changes. For teams already shipping on Quest, that lowers the risk of targeting a new Meta device while keeping the same store and core XR stack.
The practical hook for developers is the input and rendering model: VR Glasses lean on hand and eye interaction, with support for look-and-tap, foveated rendering, and quad views rendering to reduce GPU cost. Unity also points to 7.1.4 spatial audio support, which matters for experiences that depend on positional clarity and height cues.
Unity recommends upgrading to 6.6 or newer, then using the Meta Quest Build Profile, OpenXR: Meta package 2.6.1, AR Foundation 6.6.2+, OpenXR Plugin 1.18.0+, XR Interaction Toolkit 1.9.0+, and XR Hands 1.9.0+. The XR Interaction Simulator can be used to validate hand and eye interactions before hardware arrives.
Several launch titles are already in development, including Cardmada, Dragon Grove, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies VR, Dice Throne Digital, Supernatural, Two Point Hospital – Mixed Reality Edition, and Story of Seasons. Unity is also hosting a live deep dive on October 1 at 9:00 AM PT with Meta staff, which should give teams a clearer look at the workflow and the new interaction model.
