Board Meeting Minutes - June 2026

Briefing

MonoGame’s June board meeting put 3.8.5 at the center of the roadmap, with the team still aiming for a final release this month. The main schedule pressure comes from Vulkan and DX12 performance fixes, which have delayed the build even as they move close to delivery.

ARM support is now fully available in MonoGame 3.8.5 for both development and running projects, which should matter for teams targeting newer Windows-on-ARM hardware and other ARM-based environments. The foundation also plans a presentation on the DX12/Vulkan performance work, plus an upcoming look at a new font rendering system intended for a future MonoGame release.

There’s also some practical housekeeping underway: MonoGame is updating its policies, and it’s preparing license guidance for projects that will pick up FreeType as a dependency. That’s the kind of detail that can save teams from surprises when they ship or redistribute engine-based projects.

On the funding side, the foundation says its bounty process needs to be revised after recent delivery issues, and no new bounty can be accepted until the board ratifies the conditions. Proposed bounties under consideration include multiple desktop windows, Dav1d video decoding, GPU debug features, Metal, OpenGL, WebAssembly, and native Android/iOS backends built on Vulkan.
