Upcoming Changes to the Discounts & Events Section on Steam
Steamworks Development says Steam is preparing a major shift in how discounts and event promos are surfaced, moving away from a manually curated calendar toward a more dynamic, personalized system in early 2027. The goal is to make the Discounts & Events section less dependent on a small number of fixed slots and more responsive to what individual customers are likely to care about.
Valve says recent experiments with personalized placements showed 10x more games being shown to customers in a single day in that section, along with meaningful gains in store page visits, wishlists, and cart additions. For developers, that points to broader exposure for sales and events without having to compete as heavily for a handful of calendar spots.
The company has already paused scheduling new curated placements for Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals, and Daily Deals, though any already scheduled promotions will still be honored. Valve says it does not have a firm launch date yet and is still tuning the system, but expects to share more timing details in the coming weeks.
The practical takeaway is that Steam’s promo strategy is becoming more algorithmic, with new and updated tools planned to help developers manage discounts and sale events. That could reduce the overhead of pitching for featuring, while also making discoverability more dependent on how well a deal matches customer intent and recommendation signals.
