LunarG at SIGGRAPH 2026
LunarG showed up at SIGGRAPH 2026 with a very developer-facing message: Vulkan tooling keeps getting sharper, and the ecosystem is still moving. The company highlighted its work on the Vulkan SDK, validation layers, GFXReconstruct, and related utilities, then used the conference to walk through practical updates for teams building graphics and compute workloads.
The most immediately useful session was a birds-of-a-feather talk on GFXReconstruct, LunarG’s open-source framework for capturing, replaying, and analyzing Vulkan applications. The session covered command-line and integrated workflows, recent project updates, real-world use cases, and ways developers can feed back into the tool’s future direction. For studios chasing intermittent rendering bugs or trying to understand performance regressions, capture/replay tooling like this can save a lot of time compared with reproducing issues in a live engine build.
LunarG also joined the Vulkan Working Group update with a talk on descriptor debugging, specifically around VK_EXT_descriptor_heap. Spencer Fricke focused on the common failure modes teams hit when adopting descriptor heaps and descriptor buffers, including out-of-bounds access, alignment mistakes, and porting issues. The Vulkan Validation Layers were positioned as the main safety net here, which matters because descriptor-related bugs tend to be subtle, platform-sensitive, and expensive to diagnose late in production.
The broader takeaway is that Vulkan’s power still comes with real tooling and correctness overhead, and LunarG is trying to reduce that friction....
